The Ten Percent is Here!

The Talented Tenth was an influential essay written by W. E. B. Du Bois and published in September 1903. It appeared in The Negro Problem, a collection of essays written by leading African Americans.

Du Bois used the term "the talented tenth" to describe the likelihood of one in 10 black men becoming leaders in the world, through methods such as continuing their education, writing books, or becoming directly involved in social change.

W.E.B. Du Bois came to believe that leadership could arise from many levels, and grassroots efforts were also important to social change.

Good leadership is to be credited for inspiring and motivating others, creating change, and getting shit done! In today's society we need good leadership more than ever.

Considering the current state of music, leadership among music lovers is crucial if we hope to revitalize this culture we know and love. Supporters (consumers) & record labels determine more than any other group what music is played and pushed to the masses. The record labels can only sell what the consumers will buy. And the dopest artists can only tour if supporters come to their shows.

The wackest artist is only on the radio because the supporters of music are allowing them to stay on air. By requesting them on the radio, in the club, filling up the dance floor when the DJ drops their record, not supporting good music, or by just sitting back and apathetically doing nothing, you are allowing the very artists you complain about on Twitter, Facebook, or to your friends to thrive.

It's time to flip the script. If TheSeKondElement is about anything she is about leadership, art, & supporting what you believe in; whether it's the FIGHT Sickle Cell cause, GOOD music & GREAT artists, or a child's t-ball game.

TheSeKondElement has dubbed her supporters, "The Ten Percent!" So What is TheSeKondElement's The Ten Percent?

This is a group of uncommon people who support TheSeKondElement, her art and more importantly love music, art, and the essence of Hip Hop and what it stands for. People who understand that being a supporter is different than being a fan. You've helped see TheSeKondElement's career to what it is today, let's keep the movement going!
